If you have the right spot, your Dinosaur can be a great source of enjoyment indoors. I have a cabinet that is 35 inches in height near the double front entry doors. I was made to fit in a space with angular walls. Top surface dimensions 4 feet 10 ¾ inches across the front right side 25 ½ inches deep than heading toward the left 37 ½ inches than angling toward the front 30 inches leaving an edge 4 ¼ inches to the front. Kevin’s metal base frame is a circle approximately 23 ½ inches in diameter, so room to spare!
I did not wish to set the metal frame on top of the wooden cabinet without some form of protection. Fortunately, I had recently received a package that had 2 pieces of cardboard box material that connected together with package tape provided a perfect cushion. (note: don’t throw everything away and recycle!)
Next I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond to find something to cover the cardboard and hopefully have a forest look. I found a rubber foam material that is used for kitchen drawers. It has small perforated squares that make it excellent to cut to measure. I asked one of the sales rep’s if she could help me find a cloth – table, placement, etc.… – with a forest or fern print. I explained my project and she suggested Michael’s (arts & crafts store) has moss. Perfect! Michael’s not only had decorative moss, but they carry moss sheets with an adhesive backing!
I cut the foam to size. Due the dimensions I needed, I used the packing tape to connect additional foam for the base. The adhesive moss sheets reinforced the connection when attached to the foam base pad. I placed Kevin on the base to determine where I wanted to add the decorative moss. I used white glue to attach the decorative moss and a few pine cones from my yard (recycle).
Now it’s time to place Kevin in his new place of honor. This location has an overhead ceiling light that puts Kevin in the spot light at night. Hopefully he will be a deterrent to unwelcome visitors that do not wish to lose a hand, arm or leg. Dinosaurs are very protective of their homes!
