After taping off the area for the “Regal Red” stripes, I used a reusable drop cloth to cover the lower parts of the Raptor. I used a piece of cardboard to reduce overspray. It was a little breezy. Even though I waited for pauses in the wind the cardboard was a helpful assist in blocking the lighter breezes. I applied several coats allowing for drying in between. Then the unveiling.
To take the sharp edges off the red stripes, I used a Matte French Cream. Remember I use a gloss clear coat as a final protection. Therefore it doesn’t matter if the colors you use are flat, satin or gloss. If you prefer other than gloss finish, check with your Home Improvement Store for other clear coat options. Spraying the paint into a small plastic container and using an artist brush, I was able to create a more random edge. Then after removing the tape from the eye socks, I used another artist brush to add a fresh coat to the silver behind the orange eye ring. I also took the opportunity to touch up any other areas of the silver that were in need. I replaced the eyes only for the photos. I will leave them out until the final clear coating is complete.
