There are many choices for concrete paint. I found a number of possibilities at the Sherwin-Williams Store in Camarillo. Cecilia the store manager was very helpful with matching the chip cards to items I brought from home. I collected some small stones and bark from the yard to assist in color choices for the new base. I find bringing a few small items from home to match or contrast is a great aid in selecting your paint. I purchase some sample size test paints. The paint chip cards are helpful. However until you test them on your project, you can’t be sure how it will look in the light of your site. After painting the first sample color, it was clear that it was much to light. Good news it will act as a primer for the other colors.
The New Primary Color is Double Latte with Baked Cookie, Cavern Clay and Copper Wire providing accents for the sides. I added Calypso (blue) to give the look of water pooling. Later I added more running down the sides like little waterfalls. Dynamo (bright maroon) added a richness like a vein of mineral in the rock. Some feather light brushing of Obstinate Orange and Memorable Rose on the Double Latte for a finishing touch. In addition, I used Gloss Clear Coat over the Calypso to give it a sparkle in the sunlight like real water. All the other colors are satin finish.
A few buckets of rock I had been saving found a new home around the new base. A couple of tree branches and we’re done.
Now we’ll have to wait and see what new Prehistoric Animal will make a home here!
My practicing of cross-contour drawing for a better 3D design for the additional spikes I painted on Pamela’s neck, back and tail is paying off. Looking forward to finishing Pamela the Pachycephalosaurus painting! More Adventures at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles to report, as well.
Kevin the T-Rex hatchling and I will be back at the Camarillo Library for “Family Story Time” March 13th at 7:00 PM.
See the “Events” section tab for more details!
