As discussed in last week’s post “Brontosaurus at the Park and Sinclair’s Logo”, I wasn’t completely satisfied with the Purple accents on Gary. I tried a new concept with Cindy using the Deep Blue, which I liked very much.
Gary received this treatment in Purple with an enhancement to allow for Deep Blue spots from head to tail. I stood on a couple of boards to make it easier to reach the top of his head. I was able to incorporate most of the previous spots into the new design. I tried to modify the leg spots. But in the end the leg spots didn’t appeal to me so they were painted over. Sometimes less is more.
Later very small spots in Maui Blue will be added. The nails on the feet are to be painted with Stone and Hammered Grey and a High Gloss Clear Lacquer for the finish. Stay tuned for these additions and more!
I found a couple of books on The Dinosaur Sculptures at Crystal Palace to provide more information on my post July 6, 2018 “The Brontosaur and Early Dinosaur Sculptures”.
“The Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins” by Barbara Kerley with paintings by Brian Selznick
Imagine a time when almost No One in the World knew what a Dinosaur looked like! In the mid-nineteenth century a Victorian Artist named Waterhouse Hawkins was the first to create life size sculptures of these ancient animals. Originally for his native England and later New York City, he devoted over three decades to building models of Dinosaurs. This book covers the fascinating story. The illustrations are a bonus! Many of the Drawings by Brian Selznick are based on the original sketches of Mr. Hawkins. This is an excellent book for Younger Dinosaur Enthusiasts and their Parents.
“The Crystal Palace Dinosaur: The Story of the Worlds First Prehistoric Sculptures” by Steve McCarthy and Mick Gilbert
Barbara Kerley used this book as reference for creating her book. Barbara gave it very high marks. My Local Library didn’t have it. However, they have reached out to another Library across the country to borrow their book. I’m looking forward to reviewing it.
After Gary & Cindy get their final touch-ups, Stephanie the Stegosaurus will get a makeover!
