We hope You have enjoyed the Holidays and Your New Year is off to a Great Start. 2018 was a Grand Year at the Park.
It was filled with Discovering New Dinosaur Friends, Movies, Books, Trips to the Library and Museum. We learned about the Pachycephalosaurus and Museums that have their fossils on display during Pamela’s makeover. How to make a new type of base for your Dinosaur to perch was also discussed during Pamela’s process. Nightlights for Dinosaurs were studied. The History of Kite Flying & Making were explored and Kevin & I flew our Pterosaur Kite at Oxnard Beach. We even made a presentation at the “Imperial Car Clubs” annual Car Show. Brontosaurs, Stegosaurs, T-Rexes and Triceratops were covered at length during Gary, Cindy, Stephanie, Max, Dominic and Teresa’s makeovers. Before and After photos of Pamela, Gary, Cindy, Stephanie & Max below.
We discovered that many Dinosaurs look quite different as juveniles and had a behind the scenes tour of the Dinosaur Institutes Lab at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles with Dr. Luis Chiappe, Director; Jose Soler, Paleontological Preparer; Pedro Mocho Lopes, Ph.D.; and Cristina Rosales Fellows Membership Coordinator.
Some Great Books and Movies were reviewed during the year many are available at the Library and Natural History Museum of Los Angeles (NHMLA).
A Field Trip to the Wildlife Learning Center in Sylmar, California. Discovered “Green Diamonds” with the Curator of Mineralogy Dr. Aaron Celestian at the NHMLA, as well as seeing real slices of the moon and actual meteors! The Bug Fair at the NHMLA and their Butterfly Pavilion were Great Fun. My favorite is the Praying Mantis. My Trip to Templeton, California led to a stop over at Sea Oak Canyon Ranch where 21 Metal Dinosaurs were observed roaming the grounds. A Large T-Rex had a surfboard in its mouth! No sign of the surfer though. Morro Bay and Hearst Castle were also Beautiful Stops on the Trip. Kevin went to the Dentist! It’s never too early for checking your teeth. Kevin made a Special trip with me to the NHMLA to the Surprise and Enjoyment of All the Visitors!
Kevin & I providing a Reading of Dinosaur Fun Facts & Fiction in January at the Avenue Library in Ventura. Followed by another Reading at the City of Camarillo Library in March with a record attendance of 72 Parents & Children! Our first presentation at an Elementary School in June. Five Kindergarten Classes in two sessions. This was the first event for a “How to Draw Dinosaurs” activity after the Reading. The “Wildcats” at Mountain Vista Elementary were Funtasic! There are some budding young artists at Mountain Vista “Go Wildcats”! In August, Kevin & I visited the Vernon Library in Los Angeles sharing more Dinosaur Fun Facts, Fiction and Drawing.
September was a very busy month. Alejandro joined me for his First Reading & Drawing Event at the City of Camarillo Library. Angie returned with me for the 3rd Annual “Dino Fest” Weekend at the Natural History Museum. Kids & their Parents sponge painted Angie All Weekend and were informed about “Augustynolophus” California’s Official State Dinosaur! We shared Adventures from the Park too! Angie enjoyed the additional splashes of color and the CA State Northridge Student Teacher Volunteers were Wonderful. We couldn’t have done it without Their help! Thanks CSUN! The end of October was celebrated with a Potluck with Friends, Family & the Volunteers from Dino Fest Weekend at the Park.
Valentine’s Day provided some fun in the kitchen with Dinosaurs. Easter was celebrated with “Dino Eggs” – Hatching and Decorating in true Dinosaur style. Tales of the various types of Eastersaurs were told. Halloween with Dinosaur Pumpkin Carving offered a different twist on the Jack-O-Lantern. Holiday Lights, Decorating with Pinecones and Dinosaur Carols brought us to the New Year!
Nine New Dinosaurs join the Park in 2018. Three T-Rexes, Two Brontosaurs, Two Raptors, a Stegosaurus and a Brachiosaurus! The Brontosaurs and Stegosaurus were rescued from a Miners Hardware Store in Atascadero, California during my trip to visit a friend in Templeton, California. They had traveled all the way from Mexico! The other six also from Mexico had stopped at Somis Koi just a mile away from their new home at the Park.
We had many Visitors at the Park throughout the Year. Many neighbors bring their family and friends. Grandma’s & Grandpa’s, Moms & Dads, Brothers and Sisters All Love Dinosaurs! Some work in the area and just want to say Hi to the Prehistoric Pals! This year we had a Grandmother, Mom and 2 daughters visiting from Australia! They are definitely the long-distance winners to date.
Looking Forward to More Tales, Adventures & Discoveries in 2019!
