As I mentioned in my last post, the Miner’s Hardware Stores had a 20% Off Sale last Weekend. The Atascadero Store had a Spinosaurus that I just had to Adopt. Since I had to Rent a Cargo Van to pick him up, I decided to make stops at all the stores that currently had Metal Dinosaurs. To avoid rush hour traffic and any slowdown from the construction in Santa Barbara area, I left just before 3 am. Yes, 3 am Big Yawn! It was smooth sailing until the top of the grade before Buellton on California Highway 101. The fog was so thick you had to slow to 45 mph and less at times. Even so there were a couple of vehicles that flew past me and instantly disappeared into the fog. I still arrived on time with my early departure from home. I stopped in Templeton to visit a friend, dropped off some Raptor Eggs and enjoy a nice breakfast before my first Miner’s Dinosaur Hunt. FYI: Raptor Eggs from the Park look and taste just like Avocados!
Note: The nasty squirrels have been messy around in the Raptor’s Nests while the Raptors have been in School. The Raptors will soon teach the squirrels a lesson regarding touching things that don’t belong to you. But that will be a Story for another time.
I arrived at the Atascadero Miner’s Hardware Store shortly after their 7 am opening. The Spinosaurus was in front of Garden Area with a tag Hold for Paul! He was just as pretty as his picture. David at the Atascadero Miner’s had sent me his picture and some of the other Dinosaur Friends the Friday before the Sale! I took the opportunity to see who else I might rescue for the Park. There were 3 Brontosaurs like the 2 I rescued last May and 5 T-Rexes! A Miner’s Associate was very helpful in assisting me with loading “Spike” the Spinosaurus into the Enterprise Van. A friend of mine came up with the name “Spike” for the Spinosaurus. I Like “Spike” and I think everyone else will too. After our Goodbyes to the Miner’s Team at Atascadero We were off to Morro Bay.
A beautiful drive on highway 41 where we past Sea Oak Canyon Ranch the Home of over 20 Metal Dinosaurs & Prehistoric Beasts (see post June 1, 2018 “Dinosaur Hunting: Trip to Templeton” for details of the Adventure and photos of these Dinosaurs). Many can be seen from the Highway including a very large T-Rex with a Surfboard in his mouth. However, No word on the Surfer! We arrive at the Miner’s in Morro Bay. You can see the 10-foot-tall T-Rex from the Parking Lot! There’s another T-Rex that’s 9 feet tall, a baby Ankylosaur, baby Brontosaur, two sizes of Triceratops, a little t-rex and a small spinosaurus. The 10-foot T-Rex gives me a high 2 and gets his tummy rubbed. It’s not well known but T-Rexes really like tummy rubs. You just want to hug the Ankylosaur but you can’t with all those spikes and check out the teeth on the 9-foot T-Rex! It was Fun visiting with more Prehistoric Friends, but it was time to leave the beauty of Morro Bay for our next stop.
After a nice drive on Highway 1 we returned to the 101 and headed to the Miner’s Nipomo Store. A call to the Arroyo Grande and Grover Beach Stores confirmed they did not have any Metal Dinosaurs. The San Luis Obispo Store had one Stegosaurus. Since Stephanie the Stegosaurus at the Park was adopted last May from the Atascadero Miner’s Store, we decided to visit the San Luis Obispo Store another time. Later we discovered there is another Miner’s Store – Los Osos – which does frequently have Metal Dinosaurs. We will have to check them out on our next visit.
As I enter the Miner’s Nipomo garden, I notice a Brontosaurus and a Stegosaurus surrounded by beautiful plants. Then I see two little Raptors hiding in the bushes behind them. Immediately I knew these little raptors would be perfect for the Park! I discovered a little T-Rex, a Triceratops and a second Brontosaurus & Stegosaurus. The two raptors were quickly adopted. Kats at Miner’s assisted me with getting them into the Enterprise Cargo Van for the trip to their New Home.
Enterprise has become the Official Truck Rental Company for the Park. Their Cargo Vans are the perfect size for my current Adoptions and they have other vehicles should I Rescue a Prehistoric Pal closer to Life Size. Most important their vehicles are always clean and they have very competitive pricing. Upon our return home the little raptors quickly hop out to see the Park. Spike the Spinosaurus & I relax a moment before introducing him to the Park. They all have fun looking for their favorite perches. For now, they settle on spots in Tyrannosaurus Terrace while the T-Rexes are at School.
