Angie started Sunday with a relatively clean look. Thanks to Shelly & Kathleen’s help scrubbing her Saturday after the Museum closed. Noreen a return Volunteer, a Graduate from CSUN & Kindergarten Teacher – helped me remove even more of Angie’s Saturday Playtime Paint before the Museum opened on Sunday. Mary Lou, Noreen’s Mom, started helping immediately and ended up staying as a volunteer for Noreen’s entire shift. At the 9:00 am opening for Members of the Museum, Jihyun from CSUN joined the morning shift.
Note: Those with Museum Memberships are allowed in 30 minutes early to enjoy the Dino Fest activities. Membership has special benefits check at the Museum’s website for a Membership that’s Right for You! www.nhm.org
Thanks Noreen, Mary Lou & Jihyun! What a Team, You All kept things running smoothly and We All had Fun too! Special Thanks to Mary Lou for help with the wash water disposal & refill. Below: Jihyun Orange T-Shirt and Noreen in the Blue. The Kids had various painting methods – light touch with the sponge, direct use of hands (always fun) to squeezing the sponge over Angie. Dad’s, Mom’s, older sisters & brothers often gave a helping hand!
The Afternoon Team Ivania & Marcos returning Volunteers. Ivania is in her last year at CSUN to obtain her Teaching Credentials. Thanks Marcos for managing the line and especially with help with the water disposal & refills. Silu arrived early afternoon and assisted with closing. I was able to pack up in record time with Silu’s help. Another Great Team! Unfortunately, I didn’t get pictures of our afternoon and closing Volunteers. You’re Welcome to Share Your Pictures of the Adventure. Please send them to paul@paulsprehistoricpark.com
Join Me in Thanking the Volunteers! I could not have participated in this Event without All of Their Help!
As I mentioned in my previous post, I was able to see the Dino Fest Weekend Only 3D Movie Special “Walking with Dinosaurs” on Saturday. There were many Exhibitors inside the Museum and outside in the Gardens. In the Grand Foyer – NHM Dinosaur Institute – you could meet the people who discover, recover & research Dinosaur Fossils plus a second booth for Antarctic Dinosaur Fossils from the 2017/2018 Expedition; Rancho La Brea – these fossils are between 10,000 & 55,000 years old but this site is one of the richest in the world for the only survivors of the Dinosaur Family Tree – Birds; NHM Invertebrate Paleontology – explore ancient & extinct animals that swam, crawled & buzzed during the Age of the Dinosaurs; NHM Store – Lots of Dino Stuff – Books, Collectibles, Toys & Clothing; NHM Vertebrate Paleontology – spelunking in Gypsum Cave to the Late Pleistocene for Fossils and NHM Ornithology – Talk with Allison about everything you want to know about Birds. Remember Allison provided us helpful information about birds a few months ago – their colors, what colors they can see and don’t forget about the contoured feathers without barbs that resemble and perform the same function as eyelashes on mammals. Allison provided many examples of birds with these feather type of lashes during that visit (see post February 15, 2019 “New Dinosaurs & Birds of a Feather”).
The African Mammal Hall featured Joey Mason Art, Dino Gallery, Jurassic Con, PBS Dinosaur Train, Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology, Western Science Center, Snow Wolpard Art – Paleoart by Tyler Young and Jamie Sweetman – Dino drawings to silk screening. Enjoying the outdoors in the Gardens with PaulsPrehistoricPark.com were Jurassic Park Motor Pool – replica Jurassic Park Vehicles, Comco Inc. – manufacturer equipment for fossil prep, Plaster Disasters – hands on demo jacketing fossils, Face Painter Robin Cohen & NHM Scientific Illustration – How to Draw Your Own Dinos.
Another Funtastic Dino Fest Weekend Enjoyed by All!
