Blue Too, receives Apple Red Metallic on the Tongue, Gloss White Teeth and Gloss Marigold for the Eyes. The baby brontosaurs love their Gloss Maui Blue Eyes. The Maui Blue made nice accents for body spots here and there for Arlo, Libby & Kristen. Hammered Black created the pupils on the eyes for all. The Spring Green and Warm Yellow were blended together in a random design to eliminate the straight-line meeting of the colors. This was accomplished by using artists brushes and spraying paint into the caps of the cans. This was the same process used for Uncle Stuart and parents Gary & Cindy. Baby Brontosaurs closeups (below) Kristen, Libby & Arlo.
Blue Too is approximately 43 inches high and 52 inches long. What type of Raptor do You think She is?
She’s too large for a Velociraptor or Dromaeosaurus. However, Blue Too could be a young Deinonychus or Utahraptor.
Deinonychus was discovered in 1964. Deinonychus was about 10 feet long and weighed around 176 – 220 pounds! Its skeleton reflects it was designed for speed. A mouth full of razor-sharp teeth, a massive brain and large eyes making Deinonychus the perfect predator. The forelimbs were longer than most other theropods and three fingers ending with menacing claws. Along with those deadly inner toe claws we have all had nightmares after seeing the movies. If that weren’t scary enough here comes Utahraptor with all the speed & weapons of Deinonychus and other raptors, but 20 – 23 feet long weighing in at 1540 – 1875 pounds! Which do You think Blue Too will grow up to be?
Before Halloween we were working on David the T-Rex’s New Perch. As mentioned in post October 19, 2019 “The New T-Rex’s Perch & Fun for Halloween”, David’s base frame is much larger than Dominic’s. It requires six 15-inch x 15-inch stones vs. the four Dominic used. With the first four in place, I started working on more to finish David’s perch and redo the Brontosaurs Pad at the same time. After wire brushing, acid washing & rinse it was time to paint. Again the 3 colors for the stones – Sherwin Williams Double Latte for the base color, Cavern Clay for the footprints, Offbeat Green for the Moss and Baked Cookie for all the shadowing accents. Jerome, a greyhound rescue, inspects the work progress. Four of the 15-inch x 15-inch stones that were getting a redo turned out to be more of a challenge than originally expected to remove the old paint. Finally, I was able to complete them as well. When looking for a paint remover question the Home Improvement / Hardware Center regarding ease of use as well as if it’s environmentally friendly. Unfortunately, the environmentally friendly product was pretty useless. I spent a couple of hours with it on a small metal sculpture as well as these stones and it still didn’t work as promised. Make sure whatever product you use you follow the instructions carefully for use and disposal.
David will have a Great View from Tyrannosaur Terrace! With the addition of Uncle Stuart and the 3 baby Brontosaurs their pad was definitely in need of more stones and sand. Fortunately, the Barranca running across the front of my property provides a never ending source of sand. I must have added 24 buckets to raise and level the area for the Brontosaurs additional stones. Jeffrey’s Radio Flyer Wagon helped in the transport of the sand, since David has temporarily taken over the platform truck. After raking, measuring for stone placement and leveling them in their spots the Brontosaurs will have a nice new area. But first I need one more 15-inch x 15-inch stone for the third baby brontosaur.
Stay Tuned for even more details to be added to Blue Too & the baby brontosaurs!
