David is another Prehistoric Pal that was adopted from the Miner’s Hardware Store in Atascadero. A call to Sarah at Miner’s on August 29th for an update to my Needing Rescue/Adoption led to this T-Rex coming to the Park. (Trish poses with David above) Sarah advised that they recently had some baby brontosaurs but they were adopted quickly. I had three different sizes of Brontosaurus and 2 or 3 babies would be greatly welcomed. Sarah indicated more may be arriving and they kindly agreed to my picking up the T-Rex at the same time.
“Dino Fest” weekend at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles would be happening on September 21st & 22nd so waiting until afterward to bring the T-Rex home was a great help. Unfortunately, the baby brontosaurs were delayed until later in October. (See posts 11-8-2019 “The New Raptor & Baby Brontosaurs”, 11-16-2019 “Blue Too & The Baby Brontosaurs”, 11-23-2019 “More On Blue Too, The Baby Brontosaurs And Dinosaur Pads!” and 12-13-2019 “Watch Your Step!”).
Therefore, I picked up the T-Rex on September 24th since I still had the Cargo Van from taking Angie to “Dino Fest” weekend. Four of the Miner’s Atascadero Team helped load the T-Rex into the Van. I had talked to Daniel at the Miner’s in Morro Bay on the 23rd thinking the T-Rex would be lonely in the back of the Van for such a long trip. Daniel had a Raptor or two that might take care of that issue. Next stop was Morro Bay. The Raptor in a Running pose was Great! Before I could say I wanted to adopt her she had jumped in the back of the Van! Really! (See same posts above for the Raptor, now known as Blue Too, for her progress).
We finished David’s Perch in the post 11-23-2019 “More On Blue Too, The Baby Brontosaurs and Dinosaur Pads”. David is a Large and Bulky T-Rex. As I mentioned 4 Guys at Miner’s helped me load him into the Van. Fortunately, my jumbo platform truck was close to the height of the Van. I had place cardboard sheets in the van to help me slide him out on my own. And it worked perfectly. However, I didn’t want to move him off the platform truck until he was finished with his make-over.
Step 1: Wire Brush. I used different size Brushes, the ladder was a great help, Blue Nitrile Gloves, Dusting Brush, Blower and Mask. Not shown hat & glasses.
Step 2: Acid Wash set over night. Supplies – Acid Wash, Brushes, Protective Gloves. Hat & Eye wear not shown.
Step 3: Rinse & let dry completely.
Step 4: I decided to use brush paint on David to provide a thicker coat for more protection. Therefore, instead of Rust Reformer spray brush on Clean Metal Primer was used. I learned a roller brush would be a better option with such a large Dinosaur and regular brushes for the details for future projects.
Coming Soon David receives his Color Splashes!
