These Tyrannosaurs are named after the characters Calvin & Hobbes from Bill Waterson’s comic series that ran in the newspapers across the US. A year after Calvin & Hobbes first appeared, they were in 250 newspapers. In 1995 when the last script ran 2,400 newspapers carried their Adventures. You can still enjoy Calvin & Hobbes in the various books by Bill Waterson – check out amazon.com. Calvin’s imagination & daydreaming with his stuffed Tiger Hobbes provides fun for all ages. I enjoy the Dinosaur imaginings, but there are Aliens, Bugs, Snow Monsters and more. Calvin becomes Spaceman Spiff, Stupendous Man and his ability to turn a simple cardboard box into a Duplicator, Transmogrifier & Time Machine will keep you hooked.
The larger T-Rex reminded me of Calvin when he became a Dinosaur, thus the naming. The smaller one seemed the right size to be Calvin’s stuffed tiger in dinosaur form. This article is a nod to Calvin’s “Duplicator”. Calvin decides to duplicate Hobbes.
Hobbes’ duplicate is a little dirty. To help tell them apart he will receive a different paint scheme. I tried an environmentally friendly paint stripper with disappointing results. I’m glad it was with a little dinosaur! It took over an hour of scrubbing and I needed to use wire brushes to remove the remaining dried on residue, as well. Then acid washing letting set overnight followed by the rinse the next morning. After a thorough drying the Rust Reformer was applied.
Stay tuned for more on both Hobbes makeovers & additional information on the Tyrannosaurus Family Tree!
