Cupid Raptors also known as Cupidors of the Cupidsauroidea Family. Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and Jeffrey & Jerry aren’t wasting any time shooting Romance in the Air. The arrows do not strike anyone they just breeze through the air bringing Warm Thoughts & Kindness to All Nearby. We could certainly use a lot more Love in the World. Maybe one of their Arrows will spread some Love & Happiness in the Air Around You!
Their bows & arrows are made of Wisteria Vines, String and Heart shapes cut from Red and Bright Pink Cardstock. I chose the Wisteria Vine for its flexibility and because one of my vines needed pruning. The bright colored string I saved from a project years ago. It’s Great to Recycle! The Cardstock is from Michael’s Arts & Crafts. It comes in various sizes and color combinations, which is perfect with all the projects at the Park.
A tip for making hearts. Fold the paper in half draw and cut half a heart so the fold is the center of the heart. This way both halves will match. I used the first heart as a template for the others for the arrow project. Four hearts for each arrow. I made cuts on the hearts for the bottom of the arrows to give them a feathered look. Starting with the top of the Arrow I place glue on one of the hearts attach the vine and then another heart so there is a heart on each side of the vine sticking to each other. Same process for the feathered hearts at the bottom of the Arrow. The bow was easy just tie string to both ends of the vine. You decide how much of an arc you want by the length of the string. Wire secured the arrow to the bow with string stretch over the end of the arrow.
Jeffrey & Jerry are taking aim. I made a number of the hearts with one side a little larger than the other deliberately (notice the ones around the Cupid Raptors feet). It gives them a whimsical look. If Yours aren’t perfectly symmetrical, tell everyone You plan them that way from the start! All the Prehistoric Pals are busy making Valentine’s Card to exchange. Although “Be Mine” might have another meaning for the Carnivores!
There are many accounts for the origin of Valentine’s Day. One written account of Saint Valentine references his imprisonment by Rome for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and ministering to Christians persecuted by the Roman Empire. In the 14th Century in Geoffrey Chaucer circles it became associated with Romantic Love. In the 18th Century in England it grew into a special occasion for couples to express their love by presenting flowers, candy and cards (known as valentines). However You Celebrate, make it a Special Day for Sharing & Kindness.
Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
