We left off with the baby brontosaurs post 11/23/2019 “More on Blue Too, The Baby Brontosaurs and Dinosaur Pads”. The decorative design for the Brontosaurs backs, added colors for the Eyes, Nostrils and Claws are the next steps. All these details are added by dipping artists brushes into the caps after spraying the paint into the can caps. Deep Blue Gloss is used for all three of the little one’s backs. As with the Larger Brontosaurs – Stuart, Gary & Cindy – the design and color choices are different to distinguish the males from the females. Taking a clue from birds, the descendants of the dinosaurs, the males have brighter colors and or more elaborate details than the females. The general design is the same with exception of Purple Gloss vs. Deep Blue for the males. In addition, Deep Blue is used to fill some of the spot patterns on the males.
Black Night Metallic makes the Pupils for the Eyes & Nostrils. On the two females there are holes for one of their Nostrils. The Black around the edges and on the inside of the holes helps complete the look. Stone Gray Satin is the color for the Claws. The artist welded only 3 per foot. There should be 5, smaller to larger from the outside going in. Therefore, I painted 2 additional per foot. A small one on the outside and the largest one on the inside. Hammered Gray provides nice shadowing highlights for the Claws. It makes them pop and gives the appearance of depth for the painted-on Claws. After allowing time for curing a clear coat will be added before placing them with the other 3 Brontosaurs. Below Left to Right Libby, Arlo & Kristen.

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County will receive a fresh face on its Western Wing. The project will feature an entrance plaza with a welcome center. There You will be greeted by a Diplodocus named Gnatalie, that lived 150 million years ago. Gnatalie was named for the stinging gnats that fed on the excavators at her dig site. A 400-seat theater will be housed in this addition as well as special exhibit galleries, educational classrooms a rooftop garden with a deck that will grant a panoramic view of the Los Angeles Basin.
