What are Dinosaurs favorite things to eat? Well certainly that would depend on what type of Dinosaur you are.
The Ornithischia family includes Ankylosaurus, Stegosaurus, Hadrosaurs, Pachycephalosaurus and Ceratopsians like Triceratops. Many of these Dinosaurs have beaks and teeth, which help them tear trees & shrubs, as well as chew the vegetation. Sauropods have teeth for shredding vegetation but not for chewing it. They swallow stones to grind the vegetation in their stomachs. Sauropods ate vegetation by the ton. Conifers, Cycads and Ferns would be a favorite. Flowering Plants didn’t appear until the Cretaceous Period. Angiosperms, which includes everything from Oaks, Magnolias, Grasses and Garden Flowers arrived in the early to middle Cretaceous Period. Flowering Plants were more nutritious and were enjoyed by Hadrosaurs, Ceratopsians & Pachycephalosaurs.
The baby brontosaurs – Libby, Arlo & Kristen – are enjoying some branches from a Sycamore Tree.
T-Rex was definitely a meat eater and dinosaurs were more birdlike than reptilian. Therefore if warm blood like us, an adult T-Rex would have needed 250 lbs. of food each day! Raptors would feed on Herbivorous Dinosaurs too. References for the Dinosaurs Diets: Steve Brusatte’s “Dinosaurs” & “The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs – A New History of a Lost World”.
Hobbes the baby T-Rex & the Raptors – Jeffrey & Jerry like squirrels and salamanders. The larger Raptors Charlie & Jadon enjoy salamanders, while Blue & Alan snack on squirrels.
