After having sometime to consider additional highlights to Stanley’s Scales & Spikes, we decided less is more. Comparing to added purple stripes to Stephanie’s Scales & Spikes the cleaner look won. This was an issue in the decision for Spencer AKA “Spike” the Spinosaurus – posts March 29, 2019 “More About The Spinosaurus & Spike!” & April 12, 2019 “Spikes Final Touch-Ups & Dinosaur Eggs!”. Showing off the metal design details without trying to highlight them with other paint colors looked nicer (well in our opinion). Again, You are the one that sees the dinosaur/prehistoric pal every day, so it should be what You like best.
Now that that decision is settled, Stanley gets his Clear Coat. After curing, he will return to his favorite place in the Park. Stephanie receives a makeover to eliminate the purple stripes. Starting with Gloss Ivory as a base, that will be followed by Metallic Apple Red and Gloss Purple touch ups on the body and other colors as needed to correct for over-spray. Stay tuned for Stephanie’s Reveal!
The Grey Concrete Stepping Stones for a number of the Prehistoric Pals are receiving some Color Splashes! These Stones are for the T-Rexes – Calvin & Hobbes and the Triceratops – Marc. First the concrete stones receive an acid wash to help prepare them for painting. Follow the instructions on the product you select for the appropriate dilution rate. Make sure to wear protective coverings – hat, glasses, clothing and gloves. The material I used required only a 10 minute soak. Rinse thoroughly with water let completely dry and You are ready to paint. Sherwin Williams water base colors make for a quick & easy cleanup. Obstinate Orange for the base color, Calypso (blue) for the footprints and Memorable Rose for the lichen. The blue footprints will hopefully make you believe there is water remaining in the footprints. All footprints are made using a template that I made over a year ago from a piece of cardboard. It’s still holding up well.
Cyberspace will provide shadowing for the stones and Dynamo (berry red) for additional accents for the Rose lichen. The Moss & Lichen and shadows are free hand using artist brushes. After curing they will be put in place. Calvin, Hobbes & Marc can’t wait!
