Is there a Mailosaurus in Your Neighborhood? They are very good at camouflage. Often, they appear just like a regular mailbox. My first Mailosaurus, Malcolm, is retiring after pretending to be a mailbox for 22 years. He will hang out in a special place in the Park with the other Prehistoric Pals. Dominic has enjoyed picking up the mail from Malcolm. The recent Mailosaurus, Mattie (AKA Matilda) arrived last Sunday and she looks like an ordinary gray mailbox, but that will soon change!
Remove Flag and mask off the Post. White Primer is applied in several light coats. If You rush the paint can run. After curing for 48 hours, I used a 2B pencil to sketch the Dinosaur. The Spinosaurus is the inspiration for the head design. Hammered Verde is the main color for the Head and Berry Pink inside the Mouth. A cardboard sheet assists in deflecting any breeze while painting.
Artist Brushes dipped in the paint sprayed into the caps allow for completing detail accents. Hammered Deep Green provides accents around the Eyes & Mouth. Hammered Brown with Kona Brown for additional head treatments. With the 2B pencil, I sketched the Teeth & Tongue. Apple Red Metallic completes the Tongue. Gloss Marigold is a nice choice for the Eyes.
More Details for completing Mattie Coming Soon!
Clever Girl has been running around the trees with Jeffrey & Jerry. Especially the Jacarandas! The Raptors have certainly been rambunctious this week. Hopefully, I will be able to get Clever Girl to hold still for her additional splashes of color.

The 4th of July is just around the corner. Check for Online Options to Celebrate this Year in the comfort of Your Home! Be Safe & Sane! A Craft can be a fun alternative to fireworks.
Draw / Sketch Your Ideal Fourth of July! Is it the Fireworks, BBQ’s, Spending Time with Friends & Family or All of the Above?
If You need to make a little noise to Celebrate, perhaps making Dinosaur Drums will do the trick!
You probably have empty tins lying around that will make a Great Drum! You know the kind; they were once filled with Shortbread or a variety of European Chocolate Cookies. I imagine You can already hear the Drums Beating.
I had an old sheet that had been used as a drop cloth while painting. After a good washing there were plenty of areas that would make a good cover for the tin lids. You can always use paper or anything that You can draw on. The square, rectangle and circular tin covers could easily be covered with the sheet cuttings and held on with large colorful rubber bands; I found at Staple’s Office Supplies. Three of the tins had an unusual shape and the rubber bands left some gaps. I used packing tape, also from Staple’s, on the inside of the lids to hold the cloth in place. The rubber bands still provided a decorative element. A tried a double layer of cloth on one to see if it made a better cover. A little trimming after the cloth was in place and you have a drum. The rubber band popped off rather easy on the small round ones. I used white glue for reinforcement to hold them in place.
But these are Dinosaur Drums! That required a little imagination and some artwork on the cloth. “The Paleoart of Julius Csotonyi: Dinosaurs, Sabre-Tooths and Beyond” by Julius Csotonyi & Steve White provided inspiration for my Dino-Drum Art. Use Your Own Dinosaur Books for inspiration or check out Your Library or Museum online for eBooks and images. The Albertosaurus poses were perfect for the Drums. I used a 2B pencil to make the sketches and a kneaded eraser for touch-ups. An ink pen over the pencil and watercolors to finish. What do You think? Kids from 1 to 92 can have Fun Drawing & Coloring a Dinosaur Scene on the Cloth. Be creative – use Markers, Watercolors, Glitter, Feathers – whatever brings these Drums to Life for You! Colored Paper, Stickers and more can be used to add designs to the sides of the Drums if You desire. When You aren’t Beating Your Drum, it can store your Special Treasures inside. Maybe a Dinosaur will visit You when it hears You calling with Your New Drum!
Have Fun Drumming for Dinosaurs!
