Brison’s touch-ups are completed and he & Clever Girl get their Clear Coat. Eight 15 inch by 15 inch grey concrete stepping stones from Thompson Building Materials in Camarillo will provide the perches for Brison & Xavier. After Etching & Washing the Stones are ready for painting. This time Sherwin-Williams Baked Cookie will be the primary color, which works well in the bark area.
Calypso for the footprints gives the illusion they are filled with water. The Cyberspace shading helps complete the look. Offbeat Green is perfect for making ferns. I practiced sketching various ferns before painting the stones. Dynamo has a nice raspberry color for accenting the ferns. The Jumbo Platform Truck assisted with transporting the Stones. In addition, it provides the perfect height for painting while sitting in chair. After a day to cure the Stones are in place. Brison & Xavier hop on.
Four by Fours provided temporary perches while preparing the Triceratops Stones. The Triceratops were carefully moved to the Four by Fours. Since their Stones had been in place for a few years, they required a thorough cleaning. Next Etching, Washing and completely Drying the Stones. Then it was time for Painting. For the Triceratops Sherwin-Williams Obstinate Orange is the primary color. Calypso again for the footprints & Cyberspace for the shadowing. Offbeat Green for more Ferns with Dynamo for highlights. Additional Sand was placed before resetting all Triceratops Stones. A rake and level aided in their placement. I used a cloth before moving Paul the Triceratop back on his Perch to prevent damage to the freshly painted stones. After all was set it was a repeat for Chris. Marc the baby Triceratops stones were completed a couple of months earlier using a moss effect vs. ferns. Now that the Brothers are all set Big Sister Teresa is looking forward to a new permanent cool perch.
The landscape during the Age of the Dinosaurs was very different than the Forests & Plains we see around the World Today. The ground was covered with volcanic rock. The Conifers weren’t like the needled Pines we see in our Forests. They were board leaf trees like Gingkos. In addition, the Family of Cycads were much more diverse than today – favorites of Triceratops & Stegosaurus. Flowers and Grasses did not appear until the Early to Middle Cretaceous Period. Can you image not seeing Flowers or Grass Anywhere?
