Xiuhcoatl the Undiscovered Dinosaur!
The Aztecs were a Mesoamerican culture that flourished in central Mexico from 1300 to 1521. Mesoamerica is a historical and cultural area that extends from central Mexico through Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and northern Costa Rica. The Aztecs included different ethnic groups of central Mexico, especially those that spoke the Nahautl language and dominated large parts of Mesoamerica. Xiuhcoatl is their Fire or Lightning Serpent.
The Aztec Empire was a confederation of three city states Tenochtitlan the capital city, Texcoco & Tlacopan. Mexican Cuisine continues to be based on staples from the Aztecs: corn, chili, beans, squash, tomato & avocado. I’m thankful for their introduction of the cacao (cocoa) bean to the Europeans who add sugar to create the incredible candies & desserts we all enjoy today. Did you know cacao beans were used as currency for small purchases by the Aztecs? A small rabbit 30 beans, a turkey egg 3 beans and 1 bean for a tamal (or tamale).
For more information on the Aztecs check out Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aztecs
Xiuhcoatl will receive Sunrise Red & Aubergine on her wings. I made a template for painting each wing. First the Sunrise Red is applied. The cut-out for the Red will be used later for masking before painting the Aubergine. The cloth made it easy to cover the rest of Xiuhcoatl. Touch-ups were made with the Gold Rush Metallic & Gloss Ivory. Black Night Metallic provided the Pupils of Her Eyes.
