Friends of GreySave a greyhound rescue stopped by to check in on Jerome & Marta. While they were here, they met all the Prehistoric Pals. I think Jerome has an interest in Paleontology in an early picture with Stanley the Stegosaurus. Cathy, Anika, Olivia & Jeff pose with Pamela the Pachycephalosaurus. Then they browse around the Brontosaurs: Mom & Dad – Cindy & Gary, Kids – Kristen, Libby & Arlo with Uncle Stewart in the background. Xiuhcoatl is so happy to make new friends she can’t contain herself with puffs of fire and bursts of lightning.
Xiuhcoatl receives some additional Turquoise spots. The local Michael’s Art Store provided a wide selection of brushes to complete this detail and others planned. To get an idea of what the spots would look like, I needed circular-colored stickers. Michael’s didn’t have the stickers I had in mind, but they were kind enough to refer me to the Staples in the same shopping center that did. I suspect these stickers are usually used for color coding files. However, they are perfect for this project. They can save a great deal of time while you decide the number spots and their location before you paint. Make sure you attach them carefully to allow easy removal when you are ready to paint.
Even using the stickers, I made a couple of mistakes that I painted over. I tried a couple of other shapes for the spots but I found the oval shapes in various sizes the most appealing. I placed the ovals along the neck, back & tail to make a repeating diamond outline pointing to the diamond at the end of her tail.
Xiuhcoatl & Dominic the T-Rex have been joining me for my monthly Reading to Kids Zoom Meetings. Last Saturday’s book for the 1st graders was “How to Catch a Dragon” by Adam Wallace. Xiuhcoatl was especially interested in this book! Our craft after the reading was drawing Dragons and making Mother’s Day Cards. One of the kids shared a scary picture of a Dragon that had clearly been in battle. What I found most interesting about the picture was the Stegosaurus style tail and raised Raptor like Claws.
April’s book for the 5th graders was “Elephant Secret” by Eric Walters. This is a Wonderful Book. I can’t tell you all the reasons I like it so much because that would give away the secret! There are no pictures in this book. However, the writing is so descriptive your imaginations will create all the visuals you could wish for! Check out www.readingtokids.org this is a great organization to support.
