The last highlights for Xiuhcoatl were the Turquoise Spots making a repeating diamond pattern along her Neck, Back & Tail. Her Wings need a little extra Sparkle. A light mist on the top curved edge of Xiuhcoatl’s Wings with the Gold Rush Metallic did the trick. I covered her Head, Body & Tail with cloth I used painting the Wings. A piece of cardboard assisted with minimizing the overspray on the other parts of the Wings. Wherever I felt the Gold Rush Metallic was too heavy, I touched up using the artist brushes with paint sprayed in the can’s caps. Very little of the Sunrise Red & Aubergine (purple) was needed to obtain the final finish.
It’s time to paint the backsides of the Head Feathers with the Gold Rush Metallic, Aubergine & Sunrise Red. In addition, there are Metal Ridges on the top of Xiuhcoatl’s Head that might be perfect for making two more feathers. The Gold Rush Metallic was used to highlight and extend these ridges. Next Turquoise and the Aubergine created the feathered look. We weren’t happy with this look.
I considered using only the Sunrise Red and Aubergine to repeat the look on the Metal Feathers on the sides of the Head. However, Again Sometimes Less is More. These feathers were painted over with the Poppy Pink using an Artist Brush. The Gold Rush Metallic on the Head Ridges were touched up and extended forward. I think this makes a nice accent that doesn’t distract or take away from the existing Head Feathers.
The Back of Xiuhcoatl’s Tongue received final detailing. Xiuhcoatl can create “Lightning”! Her Tail needed an Accent to reflect this talent. I googled Lightning. After viewing a number of actual lightning storms, with paper & pencil a concept for Xiuhcoatl’s Tail was Realized! I placed the paper against her tail and used the pencil to obtain the actual shape. A little practice and the help of an eraser a final Lightning Design Materialized.
Stay Tuned for Creating a Perch for Xiuhcoatl!
