Last time Calvin had received his Primary Colors – Racing Green Metallic and Copper Rose Metallic. I needed more Copper Rose Metallic for touch ups on Calvin and another Dinosaur Spike the Spinosaurus. The store I purchased the original Copper Rose was out of stock. It wasn’t available to order online and a number of their other stores didn’t have it in stock either. Fortunately, a DIY Home Center not too far from my home had four cans in stock. It’s a good idea to make sure you have enough of each color before you start.
Calvin’s head was masked to allow for painting his Tongue. I discovered I had only one can of Metallic Apple Red and not a full can! Again check your materials supply before you start. Fortunately, it was enough with some to spare completing multiple coats on the Tongue. While his Tongue was drying, I painted his Claws Gloss Kona Brown. Dipping an Artist Brush in paint sprayed into the can caps aided with these details, as well as the Teeth and Eyes. Gloss White for the Teeth, Gloss Marigold Eyes, Night Black Metallic for the Pupils and Hammered Brown provided details around the Eyes.
Stay Tuned for Final Touch Ups on Calvin and return to His Perch!

July’s Reading to Kids Book Topic: “Wonders of Science & Technology”
Since many of July’s books are about improving the environment, the Prehistoric Pals & I thought creating an Ocean and asking the kids what they would like to see in their Ocean. My reading group this month 4th & 5th Grades. The Kids had a lot to say about how they would improve the Planet. Therefore, We didn’t get to the Craft. However, here’s the Prehistoric Pals & My Ocean. You can Draw and color one or use a colored piece of construction or cardstock paper for Your Ocean. I drew some Wave Shapes and cut along the top of the shapes. Make sure You Don’t Cut too Close to the Edges of the Paper! Then fold them Up. Now, You have a 3D Ocean! What will You put in it? Fish? an Octopus? Sharks? Whales? How about a Mosasaurus or Plesiosaurus?
I Drew and colored some Sea Creatures for my Ocean – a Whale, an Octopus, a Mosasaurus, a Plesiosaurus and a School of Fish. I started with a Pencil Drawing. Then Ink Pen for the final lines. A Kneaded Eraser removed all the extra pencil lines and Sharpie markers provided the Colors. A pair of scissors to cut them out leaving excess paper around each one to add hooks for hanging. Paper clips make great hangers. I used a tool to make the holes for the paper clip hangers, but You could use a hole punch instead.
A Box provided Our Under Sea Environment. First Packing Tape on 2 of the parts of the lid to give it more height. Depending on the size of Your Box You might just fold in 3 of the Top Pieces. I cut off one side using a box cutter and scissors. Turn the Box Upside Down. The Bottom Now Top is where You will attach Your 3D Ocean. I made an opening to make it easier to hang My Ocean Animals. However, You could tape the hangers or poke the ends of the paper clips through the top and bend them over instead. I used a Measuring Tape to make sure the hole wasn’t too big so I could attach the Ocean Waves on Top. A hole puncher for the colored paper, a tool to make the holes in the top of the box to attach the brass fasteners. Hang Your Ocean Animals. You can use paper (regular or construction) to cover the Outside and Inside of the Box with more Ocean Animals that You can Draw and Color before attaching.
Stay Tuned for how We finish the rest of the Box. The Prehistoric Pals & I would love to see Your ideas for this craft. You can Email pictures of Your 3D Ocean to paul@paulsprehistoricpark.com
