Calvin finally received his finishing touch-ups. The Rose Copper Metallic and Racing Green Metallic were Bended using artist brushes for a more natural look. The paint is sprayed into the paint caps then the artist brushes are dipped in to make fine details. Calvin is secured to his perch using a thin green cable. A clamp kit connects the cable to screw eyes through drilled holes at the top of fence posts. His head is rather large and could fall over from a mild to heavy gusts of wind, not uncommon in my neck of the woods. Later I will paint leaves on the posts to help camouflage them.
Hobbes is anxious to receive some updates to his paint job to match Calvin’s new look. Hobbes is currently sporting Racing Green Metallic & Hammered Copper. The Copper Rose Metallic is a lighter and brighter color that will replace the Hammered Copper and provide additional accents for Hobbes. Calvin & Hobbes cast some Scary Shadows at Night under the Solar Rock Lights. The Solar Rock Lights by Hampton Bay have two levels of brightness and the light socket can be rotated to maximize lighting options.
My Sketches of Marine Reptiles were inspired by “The Paleoart of Julius Csotonyi Dinosaurs, Sabre-Tooths and Beyond” by Julius Csotonyi & Steve White. They were complete on Watercolor Paper. I found a couple of DVD packages that cover Watercolors in The Great Courses catalogue: “Sketching People, Places and Landscapes” that have been very helpful. The Great Courses – “How to Draw” by Professor David Brody has also been a great learning experience for Drawing Prehistoric Pals in their Environments. Check Your Library’s availability for these or similar DVD’s for check out!
After adding the Watercolors, I am concerned the Plesiosaur scene may be a little too dark in the lower section and needs a more gradual transition from light to dark. Dominic is offering to help with the adjustments. I may apply water to that area and attempt to lift some of the color with a paper towel. However, I will press these watercolors under books and live with them “as is” for a while before adjusting further.
