Four Raptors – Alan, Jadon, Charlie & Blue Too – have been waiting some time for their Special Perches. Eight 15 inch by 15 inch Grey Concrete Stepping Stones from Thompson Building Materials in Camarillo meet the need. Two for each Raptor provides the Base for their Perches. The Stones are prepped by Cleaning, Acid Etching, Rinse and Drying. The Acid prepares the Stone for bonding with the Paint.
Sherwin-Williams Paints are applied with standard & artist brushes. Offbeat Green is primary color for a grassy background for the Flowering Plants. The Plant Leaves & Flower Stems in Cyberspace. An overlay of Gibraltar on the Leaves provides some contrast. Flower Petals Pop with Dynamo, Memorable Rose for the Stigma and Obstinate Orange for the Anthers. In the final touch-ups, falling petals give the look of motion.
The first Dinosaurs arrived 251 Million Years Ago. However, Flowering Plants didn’t evolve until the Cretaceous Period – over 100 Million Years Later! The Herbivores must have felt like they discovered Chocolate! Until the Cretaceous Period their diet was limited to Conifers and Ferns. Now their choices were Blossoming All Over the Planet.
Stay Tuned for Placing & Securing the Raptors to their Perches!
Last Saturday was ReadingtoKids.org September Event. Marc the Triceratops, Xiuhcoatl the Dragon and Dominic the T-Rex joined me for the Reading. The theme “Back to School Fun” the books: Kindergarten “Hello School” by Priscilla Burris (beautiful artwork); 1st Grade “Turkey Goes to School” by Wendi Silvano; 2nd Grade “Just Ask!: Be Different, Be Brave, Be You” by Sonia Sotomayor (Yes, One of Our US Supreme Court Justices! This is my favorite for the month! It will be obvious why, when you read the book. Wonderful Artwork too!); 3rd Grade “How to Get Your Teacher Ready” by Jean Reagan; 4th Grade “Annie’s Life in Lists” by Kristin Mahoney (a very creative way to tell a story!); 5th Grade “Two Dogs in a Trench Coat go to School” by Julie Falatko (If you have pets you will love this fun & humorous story).
Another successful Reading Event 241 Kids, 72 Volunteers and 26 Teachers & Staff with 8 Schools. Patrick my reading partner & I had a combined group of 27 kids in K thru 2. We read “Just Ask!”. A group of diverse kids plant a garden together. Therefore, we decided to draw our garden on the white board in ZOOM. It was a lot of fun. I drew a Venus Fly Trap and a Raptor to play in the Garden. Can you find them in the pictures? I painted a watercolor for the presentation. My vision of some Prehistoric Plants that happen to be Marc, Xiuhcoatl and Dominic’s favorites. A Snapdragon of Course, Ceratopsian Daffodils and Tyrannus Lilies, What do You think? Dominic always offers to help with retouching my artwork.
