Pride of Madera (Echium candicans) has a very interesting root ball. I discovered this when I had to remove a few of the plants that had died or overgrew their space. I had saved a couple of the root balls for an interesting landscape display. Some years ago around Halloween, I thought they would make the perfect topping for a Wizard Staff!
They are beautiful in bloom. After a couple of seasons, their blooms are not as nice and they can become very large. Pride of Madera is very hardy in my area. When I remove the over grown plants, seedlings pop up quicky. This provides me with a never ending supply of Wizard Staff Tops! I’m looking forward to seeing the remaining root balls in this section. Plus there are some other areas to thin in the Park. Stay Tuned for the assembly process of these New Wizard Staffs.
