My Reading partner Eric and I presented to a combined group of 3rd, 4th & 5th Graders. Two of the Prehistoric Pals Xiuhcoatl (a Dragon) & Dominic (a T-Rex) joined us for the Reading & Crafts. We read “Dasher” and had Fun with some Reindeer crafts. Of course, I added a Dinosaur option in our crafts. I demonstrated how to make a Reindeer head from the cardboard tube in a roll of toilet paper. This is where the T-Rex option came in. First, You flatten the tube. Next draw a side view of a Reindeer, T-Rex or other animal you would like. Then cut out Your drawing. Make sure your drawing allows for the head and neck or other parts to wrap around the tube to keep this a 3D craft. Color make a couple slits on the back to allow mounting on a pen, pencil or marker. You can add string or ornament hook for hanging on your tree. Or perhaps using a longer piece of string/rope make a chain of animals to decorate your room. Note: I glued some scrapes of toilet paper (that were still on the tube) to make the white parts of the Santa’s Hat on the T-Rex. In addition, you can use construction paper to make tubes of various sizes to substitute for the toilet paper tube.
