The Holiday Village is up and this year a few Dinosaurs have been added. These scale models assist with my drawing Dinosaur Activities. These Dinosaurs help Santa with whose been naughty and whose been nice. Since the Dinosaurs arrived, the naughty villagers are no-where to be found! However, the nice villagers are snug in their homes watching Dinosaur Tales, playing Dinosaur Games and making Holiday Crafts.
A new book with stunning Paleoart – “Dinosaurs: New Visions of a Lost World” by Michael J. Benton is the latest on what Dinosaurs really looked like when they roamed the Earth. This book provides evidence to support the recreations illustrated. A great stocking stuffer! Recommended for grade levels 5th through 9th. However, I think all ages will enjoy this book.
In the 1940’s the first tracings of Dinosaurs in Missouri were found. They are at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Nearly 60 years later another set of fossils from the same species of duck-billed Dinosaur were discovered about 50 feet from the original site. Dinosaurs are rare in Missouri and have not been found at any other site in the State. Parrasaurus missouriensis not surprising became the State Dinosaur of Missouri. The excavation process began in 2017. The clay at the site and the pandemic complicated the four year long process. The team found several turtle fossils and parts from at least four different dinosaurs. The Fossils are at the Field Museum in Chicago for preparation & research. Museum visitors are now able to watch scientists prepare the fossils.
