Halloween will soon be here! The Prehistoric Pals are already in the Halloween Spirt – from Dinosaur Wizards to Dinosaurs in our Haunted House Craft. Dinosaurs are even Popping Out of Our Pumpkins!
Here’s how Dinosaurs hatched from our Pumpkin. First, you need to search for the right Pumpkin to create your Halloween Idea. I purchased one too early and it had started to mold before I cut it open – Ich! Good News, I found another larger Pumpkin that worked even better for my Dinosaurs Hatching from Pumpkins theme. After searching my Dinosaur Books & online for some images to inspire, I sketched a few concepts. Then using a special crayon, I rough a drawing on each side of the Pumpkin.
Before cleaning out the Pumpkin, I used pumpkin carving tools to make the details on the outside that won’t go all the way through. The pumpkin shell is stronger this way and you are less likely to break off important parts of your design. Then after I’m satisfied with these details, I cut a hole to remove the top and clean out the inside. Next, the Final Cuts to highlight your image(s). Note: I’m searching for better tools to make the light carving details.
I use tea lights to illuminate our pumpkins. They are much safer than candles! The type of Tea Candles I use have a flickering light that resembles a candle. Anne & Nicholas, the Hatching Skeleton T-Rexes pose with me displaying our pumpkin. Dominic the T-Rex joins us holding one of our Haunted Houses with two others at his feet. A few Dinosaur Wizard Staffs make Great Indoor decorations as they display a few of our Dinosaur Masks. I hope you enjoyed our Dinosaur Theme Pumpkins and that they inspire a creative spark in you!
See October 13, 2022 post “Dinosaur Wizards are Coming!” for how to make “Wizard Staffs” for Your Dinosaurs. Plus, there are step by step instructions for making “Haunted Houses”. Kids & Adults will have Fun with this Craft! The 4th Graders at our ReadingtoKids.org Event on October 8th did a screaming great job with their Haunted Houses.
Note: Anne & Nicholas are named after the children in “The Others” a scary Haunted House Classic!

I used watercolors to make Dinosaur Designs on my N95 Masks (New Ones above). I couldn’t get a yes or no from 3M regarding any impact this might have to the effectiveness of the mask. Many Museums sell Dinosaur Themed Masks Check them Out!
