Raphael and Dominic are the last to arrive at school today. I purchased a couple of video courses for “How to Draw” and “Learning Spanish” from The Great Courses. My first experience with The Great Courses was “The Great Tours: Greece and Turkey, from Athens to Istanbul” for a future trip. We’ll use this course to start our history lesson. A number of books I checked out at The City of Camarillo Public Library will complete our history lesson (next week’s post “Dinosaurs in the Public Library”).
The “How to Draw” is covered with 6 discs containing 36 lessons and a Course Guidebook. Professor David Brody at the University of Washington in Seattle is the instructor for class. “Learning Spanish” also uses 6 DVD discs containing 30 lessons and a Course Workbook. At the end of each lesson the discs have audio practice to assist with re-enforcement of the lessons. The workbook contains exercises to add to your learning as well as glossaries of common words and phrases to increase your learning. Your Spanish Instructor is Professor Bill Worden from The University of Alabama.
“The Great Tours: Greece and Turkey, from Athens to Istanbul” is covered in 4 discs with 24 lessons by Professor John R. Hale, Director of Liberal Studies at the University of Louisville, an archaeologist. This is an excellent course not only providing you with locations to see, but the significant historical events behind these locations, tips for travel times, necessities to bring or purchase during your trip. Frequently points of interest off the beaten path are indicated to make the most of your visit. The 8 books from the Public Library cover various aspects of Dinosaur characteristics and family tree. These books will be discussed in detail in next week’s post (“Dinosaurs in the Public Library”).
