The book reading Tuesday Night at the City of Camarillo Public Library was a success. The kids were great and had lots of questions. They all had their favorite dinosaur – T-Rex, Velociraptor, Pteranodon and Brontosaurus (now know as Apatosaurus). I know, I really liked the Brontosaurus name meaning “Thunder Lizard” much more. But that’s another story. I read my book “Is a Metal Dinosaur the Right Pet for You?” first, to give the kids and their parents an idea of what PaulsPrehistoricPark.com is all about. FedEx Office was very helpful in printing my book and promotional cards quickly. I delivered the images for the cards the previous Friday morning and my completed PDF for the book Friday evening. FedEx had everything ready before noon Saturday. Plenty of time for my review and prep for the Tuesday Night reading.
Monday I dropped off the books that I would not be reading with Mary Goldberg at the City of Camarillo Public Library. I also made a donation of a box of children’s books that had previously belong to my Mom. My Mom had passed away last June. She was a Preschool Teacher for 28 years before retiring, so I’m sure she would be happy her books are going to a good place. I donate three other boxes of books to the “Friends of the Library Bookstore”, which helps raise funds for the Library. Please keep the Library in mind when you have books you no longer need.
I’m so glad I stopped by Monday, Mary had a Dinosaur pop-up book for me to consider for the reading. “Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs” by Robert Sabuda. It’s a wonderful book and everyone loved it. I liked it so much I ordered one from Amazon.com $22.99 brand new!
I practiced the pop-up book at home with Marc (Triceratops), Antonio (Pterodactyl), Alejandro (T-Rex) and Kevin (T-Rex hatchling). The other books I read Tuesday Night were:
- “Stomp Dinosaur Stomp” by Margaret Mayo illustrated by Alex Ayliffe
- “Dinosaurumpus” by Tony Mitton illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees
- “How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night?” by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague
After the reading the kids posed with Kevin & I for a photo or two. Luke, the young man seated in front of me, is interested in becoming a Paleontologist, per a conversation I had with his Mom. Everyone at PaulsPrehistoricPark.com wishes Luke the best and I’m sure you do too! All the kids received a double sided photo card with pictures of some dinosaurs at PaulsPrehistoricPark.com. The young man next to me is holding his card. Thank You to All that participated Tuesday. Look forward to another reading in the future!
A couple of books I would like to recommend for You Serious Dinosaur enthusiasts:
- “Prehistoric Predators” by Brian Switek illustrated by Julius Csotonyi (2015) – Although recommended for ages 6-8, I believe it would be a nice addition to anyone’s collection. The cover is textured like dinosaur skin and the illustrations and content are great!
- “Dinosaurs” by Steve Brusatte (2008, new edition 2010) a HUGE Book! (17” X 14”) the City of Camarillo Public Library has this one. It doesn’t fit on the regular self. Check with the Reference Librarian upstairs to locate it. Excellent illustrations & Great Information. The Large Book has a Spinosaurus on the cover. I purchased the smaller 2010 edition (14” X 12”) on Amazon.com, which has a T-Rex on the cover. However, I could not find any difference in the content.
Look for additional and more detailed Book Reviews in future posts. Enjoy Your Reading!
